| British Gardener in Brooklyn Gardens While some people prefer a high-maintenance neatly-manicured lawn and herbaceous borders, there is a growing appreciation of what are called 'natural' gardens. This style pioneered in Europe, lends its self particularly well to the USA, reflecting the wide open prairie. Through spending time in the south western states, Edwin grew to love the native grasses, perennials and broad leaved evergreen shrubs. Using these, his gardens are of interest throughout the year, providing color and character even in the winter months. These perennials will also appear year after year, eliminating the need for annual filler plants. His design techniques utilize freer groupings than that of the traditional herbaceous border and are often influenced by the natural habitat. A new series of photographs were released February 2011 and feature some of the gardens and plantings Edwin has designed and installed and introduce restoration and conservation projects he has been involved in.
