While some people prefer a high maintenance neatly-manicured lawn and herbaceous borders, there is a growing appreciation of what are called 'natural' gardens. This style pioneered in Europe, lends itself particularly well to the USA, reflecting the wide open praire.
Through spending time in the State of Kansas, Edwin grew to love the American native grasses and perennials. Using these, his gardens are of interest throughout the year, providing color and character even in the winter months. These perennials will also appear year after year, eliminating the need for annual filler plants.
His design techniques utilize freer groupings than that of the traditional herbaceous border and are often influenced by the natural habitat.
Our current gallery demonstrates perennials growing in shady light conditions. A collection of late summer flowering plants on the edge of a wooded site. Enlargement of each photograph by clicking bottom right corner of each frame.
